15.05.09 Sportscar professional meets Dakar aces at the world's toughest 24 hour race

Sportscar specialist Wolfgang Kaufmann, former World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz and allrounder Dieter Depping will share one of the blue Volkswagen Scirocco GT24, the number 117, in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.

"I am delighted to be a part of the Volkswagen team for the 24 hour race on one of my favourite tracks" – Wolfgang Kaufmann is relishing the prospect of this new project, and he outlines his strategy for the event: "together with my excellent team mates, I will give everything to make it another victory in the two-liter turbo class for Volkswagen Motorsport."

Wolfgang Kaufmann is renowned as a expert par excellence on the Nürburgring Nordschleife for which Jackie Stewart coined the phrase "Green Hell".

The 2 liter turbocharged engine in the 1100kg Volkswagen Scirocco remaines largely unchanged from last year, with one significant difference. The regulations now mandate an air restrictor with a smaller diameter, this reduces engine power from 325 to approx. 315 bhp.
