7.05.10 GT Open: Troublesome season opener
The first two races of the season in the GT Open Series did not quite go according to plan for Wolfgang Kaufmann and his Italian team mate Luca Moro.
"The package is not quite evenly balanced yet. We have had some problems with the handling of our 997 RSR that we need to analysed together with the team. Compared to Valencia, we have made a few steps forward; but we are still too far off the pace", Kaufmann explains the situation.
In the races at Valencia and Nürburgring Kaufmann/Moro lost valuable time to the two other Porsche 997 RSR that were crewed with factory drivers.
"Another problem right now is the tyre situation. The Dunlop tyres we use are basically OK but the work significantly better on the Ferraris."
In GT Open, the Porsche teams are up against a majority of Ferrari F430 which thanks to their mid-engined layout use their tyres much more effectively and with less wear.
The next round of the GT Open takes place on May 23/24 at the Imola racetrack.
