10.01.11 Headed for the desert
The 24 Hours of Dubai are fast becoming the inofficial kick-off to the season for the GT and endurance racing scene. More and more nameable teams use this event in the United Arab Emirates to start their motor racing year. For instance the Mercedes-Benz factory team will travel to the Persian Gulf.
In spite of the increasing number of entrants Wolfgang Kaufmann's goals for his fifth outing in the Dubai 24h race are ambitious: "I will get my second opportunity this year to race for the Hungarian team Bovi Motorsports in Dubai. Last year, we where able to win our class. This year we are again shooting for a class win and hope to get onto the overall podium."
Together with Hungarian drivers Istvan Racz and Kalman Bodis and Slovakia's Miro Konopka, Kaufmann will drive the Silver Sting a racecar designed by Bodis on the basis of several Porsche components. "We have proven at the 12 Hours of Budapest last year that our result in Dubai was not a fluke. At Bovi Motorsport's home race in Hungary we managed to secure an outstanding 2nd place in the overall standings. Why should we not be able to repeat this result against the top teams? We are a team that is small but operates with high effectivity."
Further ahead in Wolfgang Kaufmann's season are races with an LMP 1 prototype in the Le Mans Series and possibly in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. German fans will also see the professional from the Westerwald during the course of the endurance Championship season on the Nürburgring, and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
The Dubai 24 Hours will take place on January 13-15, 2011 a the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates.
