At the ADAC 1000km Classic the professional from Molsberg was at the helm of a Porsche 911 from 1970. The Porsche Kremer team from Cologne prepared the car in their usual excellent manner for the race at the 27th International Oldtimer Festival for the "Jan Wellen Trophy".

Together with Martin Schlüter and Georg Goda, the car's regular drivers, Kaufmann looked forward to the race with great anticipation: "Everything is just a perfect fit today. The 911 has always been my favourite car and in combination with the Nordschleife and the grand name of Kremer Racing this has to be one of the highlights of my year."

Aside from the emotional aspect, the results were also a source of joy for the team. The three drivers put their Porsche on pole position for their class, and 16th position overall of the 93 car grid. The weather conditions in the Eifel would prove to be particularly challenging for all teams and drivers. In the early stages of the race, the sun prevailed: "But as usual in the Eifel, the weather changed quickly, and the sky turned grey", starting driver Kaufmann recalls. As he handed the car over to his team mate Martin Schlüter, the team decided against a change to wet weather tyres, choosing cut slicks instead. "That choice wasn't quite ideal" as these don't have the same water displacement as proper rain tyres."

Toward the end of the race, Kaufmann again took over the Porsche from Georg Goda and after seven hours of racing, the team were jubilant about 10th place overall and a class win. "It was a splendid result for the crew and the drivers, in difficult conditions. And all this despite the windscreen heater failing on us, and us having to wipe the screen with our hands for vision all the time", Kaufmann was delighted with his achievement after the race.
