With 2nd place in their class and 11th place overall Wolfgang Kaufmann made a successful start to the 2011 VLN season in his Kremer Porsche. The German professional achieved a sensational podium place in the 181 car field of the Nürburgring endurance championship together with his British colleague Nick Tandy.

The venerable team from Cologne has enjoyed much success in historic racing in recent years and is now making its comeback in contemporary motorsport. The highly motivated team led by Eberhard Baunach and Uwe Sauer prepared the Porsche for the season opener and gave the Porsche specialists Tandy and Kaufmann a perfect racecar.

With the modified ex-Cup Porsche, Kaufmann achieved the 15th fastest time in practice, in front of the works supported Manthey Porsche. 172 cars ran in practice and the field set off on its four hour journey on time. The 997 GT3 in Kremer's house colors and sporting number 62 (for 1962, the year E & M Kremer GmbH was founded), stayed within the top 12 at all times with Kremer „factory“ driver Kaufmann and his English colleague Tandy at the helm. The three driver changes went smoothly, just like the old Kremer days.

Kaufmann handed the car over to Tandy in a competitive position, then in his second stint completed the race without any trouble whatsoever and brought the Yokohama-shod SP 7 Porsche across the line. „with the experience we have gathered in this first race, we can put some improvements into place and are planning for a top 10 finish and the class win in the second VLN round“, Wolfgang Kaufmann outlines the team's objective, „after all the fantastic work Kremer has done in the historic scene in recent years, it is brilliant to have the Kremer name back as a front runner with contemporary cars.“
