This time he was behind the wheel of Ralf Weiner's GTW Porsche 996 GT3-R; and this car has a remarkable history, having won the 24 hour race on the Nürburgring in 2000. Three years later, Kaufmann drove it in his first 24 Hours, for the Raffay team from Hamburg.

Among the pack of Porsche 997s, Wolfgang Kaufmann/Ralf Weiner brought home a decent result. Even though a broken stabiliser on the front suspension got in the way of an ideal lap in qualifying, in the end they scored a fine second place in the SP7 class behind the overall winners, Manthey Racing.

Kaufmann drove the opening stint in the Yokohama-shod Porsche: "We had to be somewhat less than aggressive under braking because we were looking for longevity in our brakes to covr the distance without any problems." The GTW Porsche had its share of little issues during the race. A heavy gearchange prevented a better overall result for Weiner/Kaufmann: "Considering the gaggle of 997s we were up against, and our trouble with the gearbox, we can be happy with our result. The team has set up the 996 GT3-R really well", Porsche expert Kaufmann sums up the event.
