9.05.12 All set for the 24h Nürburgring
The 24h race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife will be the highlight of Kremer Racing's 50th anniversary season. The team and Wolfgang Kaufmann took part in the first three VLN races to prepare the car and driver for Germany's biggest motor racing event.
At the 54th ADAC ACAS H&C Cup, the team's mechanics took center stage. Following a slip-up by one of Kaufmann's team mates approaching the Mercedes Arena in timed practice, they had to bring the Porsche 997 KR back to race worthy condition till start the formation lap. “The boys did a terrific job, and we had a very well prepared car in spite of the accident and the short time they had to fix it. Unfortunately we had no timed practice lap and had to start the race from the last row on the grid.”
Start driver Wolfgang Kaufmann worked his way from the tail end of the field back to the lead in the SP7 class - “The car undoubtedly has great potential, and for the 24h Nürburgring, a podium finish in SP7 is definitely our goal.” When one of Kaufmann's co drivers accelerated too early in one of the numerous yellow flag areas, the team was handed a penalty of an extra lap by the race officials, and thus ended up with a less-than-gratifying third place. “Three races, three visits to the podium, that's an encouraging development for the 24h race on the Nürburgring that lies ahead.”
The season's highlight on the Nürburgring will happen on May 17-20, 2012. Wolfgang Kaufmann will be driving the car with number 150 for Kremer Racing, with the sister car carrying number 250.
