For the first time in his career, Wolfgang Kaufmann took part in a race in Poland: the Czech endurance championship travelled to the TOR Poznan Circuit in Western Poland.
Also for the first time, Alexander Talkanitsa shared the AT Racing Corvette with his father, Alexander Talkanitsa sr., as well as the sportscar professional from Germany.
Competing against six former DTM cars which are allowed to run without restrictors, Kaufmann showed a maximum of effort and put the ex-factory Corvette C5-R un the third sport of the grid for Sunday's 3h race.
Kaufmann then also drove the first stint on the not necessarily FIA-compliant track: "As far as the layout goes, it is a great circuit – not as sanitised as many other tracks." At the end of the max. allowed drive time, Kaufmann handed the Corvette to Talkanitsa jr. almost a lap ahead of the 4th placed Porsche: "In the beginning, it was hot as hell in the car; on top of the high ambient temperature, the exhaust and the catalyst also radiate heat into the cockpit." - a safety car period erased this advantage . In his final stint of the race, Alexander Talkanitsa sr. had to concede third place to the Porsche crew of professional drivers, and crossed the finish line in a good 4th position after three hours.
"Where the DTM cars ran unrestricted, we had an air restrictor on our engine. The required ECU didn't arrive in time. So considering this, we are quite happy with the result we have achieved."
