9.10.12 Kaufmann in a Ferrari

The # 50 Kremer Porsche KR was not entered in the ninth and penultimate round of the VLN on the Nürburgring; Wolfgang Kaufmann took the opportunity to assist Swedish team, Scuderia Autoropa, in their first campaign of the Ferrari 430 Challenge with his years' worth of Nordschleife experience.

Together with Johan Bonnier and Filip Larsson, Kaufmann was able to put the # 151 white Italian sportscar on the very positive 2nd grid position in the SP8 class. “In spite of the slim choice of tyres that is available for the 19 inch wheels, we made the right decision. The car ran exceedingly well, and the start was sensational already”, Kaufmann sums up his impressions from his initial race stint.

After seven laps, Kaufmann handed the 430 Challenge to Larsson in 2nd position in SP8. “Filip also did a tremendous job until a technical failure led to a fire in the Ferrari's engine bay, and he had to stop the blazing car at the Hatzenbach section on lap 12”; Kaufmann also criticises the fire extinguishing procedure: “sadly it did take rather a long time until the marshals arrived with a fire extinguisher, which meant that the damage to the car is greater than would have been necessary.”

In the last VLN race of the year, on Oct 27, Wolfgang Kaufmann will again drive his accustomed “Jubilee” Kremer Porsche 997 KR.
