7.04.10 Full schedule für Wolfgang Kaufmann
In what is still a difficult economic environment, Wolfgang Kaufmann was able to secure a strong program of racing for the 2010 season. "Following the successful 24h race at Dubai in January, the last few weeks have seen many talks about the rest of the season. This current uncertainty over the economic situation did lead to hesitation by all parties involved”, Kaufmann sums up the situation. "So I'm all then more happy to be involved in two very attractive racing series."
Together with his long time team mate Luca Moro, Kaufmann will again take part in Formula Le Mans, in a sports prototype entered by the Swiss team Hope Pole Vision Racing. The whole Le Mans Series which starts this weekend at Paul Ricard in southern France, is on the schedule. "The main difference this year will be the duration of these races. Where we did one hour of sprint racing last year, we have an eight hour race and several 1000k races ahead of us this time around. This puts a significantly higher strain on driver an machine. But the thought of sharing the track with the works cars from Audi and Peugeot, as well as the GT cars such as Porsche and Ferrari, presents an interesting challenge", the Nordschleife specialist is looking forward to the task ahead in 2010.
Together with Luca Moro and Switzerland's Steve Zacchia, I see ourselves in with a good chance for regular podium places in our class. I am extremely motivated for the season, and looking forward to some exiting and successful racing."
The second part of Wolfgang Kaufmann's plans for the year involves a campaign in the GT Open series. Again together with Luca Moro, Kaufmann will be driving a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR. "This will be my first full year with the 997 RSR. Apart form a few outings on the Nürburgring, I have not yet done a full season's racing with such a car."
Kaufmann first meet the team Autorlando Sport last week when Luca Moro and he travelled to a test session that was held near Brescia; a planend test at Spa-Francorchamps fell victim to structural damage to the track, caused by a collapsed spectator tunnel at the prestigious Belgian track. "I have fond memories of the GT Open, and the Spanish GT Championship that preceded it. In 2001 partly together with the team of Paco Orti I won the Porsche World Cup with a 993 GT2. I have great expectations for this season with Autorlando Sport as I have come to know them as a very effective team."
Now all that is missing to round out Wolfgang Kaufmann's 2010 year of motor racing, are the 24 hour races at the Nürburgring and at Spa: "I would like to run do these races. Talks are underway, but currently there have been no definite decisions made as to a possible car or team."
