His participation was agreed upon only on Friday before the main event in the Langstreckenmeisterschaft: "I met Tobias and Georg Guttroff at the Nürburgring on Friday, and we got to talking about racing in the seventh round of the season, on Saturday, as a team."

In the SP8 category, the Guttroff/Kaufmann duo took on the race with a Callaway Corvette Z06 and put the American sportscar on the 29th grid position in the 194 car field. In the initial laps, the Eifel once again showed its fickle side, and the teams were put before the difficult task of choosing the right tyres for the conditions. Guttroff/Kaufmann chose wet weather tyres.

Starting driver Kaufmann had to cope with a drying track during his initial stint before the rain came back and he managed to close right back up to the top 10 runners. In spite of technical trouble eight laps before the end, Guttroff/Kaufmann were classified in 2nd place in the SP8 class.

"We had a problem with the right rear wheel bearing and unfortunately had to park the Corvette in pit garage just before the end of the race, just as we still had the chance for a better finish."
