21.01.11 Mission accomplished
Wolfgang Kaufmann's fifth assault on the 24 Hours of Dubai was a complete success.
Before the start, Kaufmann and his Hungarian team Bovi Motorsport named the repeat of 2010's class win as their goal for the race. It seemed a tough task for the Brokernet Silver Sting developed by Kalman Bodis, with an opposition made up of a number of drivers and teams supported by the big manufacturers.
The Hungarian Sportscar based on Porsche technology ran the entire race distance very reliably and allowed its drivers to run constantly quick lap times. But five tyre failures temporarily set Kalman Bodis, Istvan Racz, Jaap van Lagen and Miroslav Konopka back: “We couldn't explain the tyre damage as it was always the unloaded right rear tyre that needed replacing. We then did some work on the body panel in the pits to make 100% sure that the tyre would not be damaged again.”
At the end of the 24 hour duration, the car had reached the finish and defended its class win from 2010, and had also achieved an outstanding 10th place overall. “When you look at how many teams with official or inofficial factory support took part in the race, our performance cannot be rated highly enough”, Kaufmann puts the result in Dubai into perspective.
At the 12 hour race in Budapest in October, Team Bovi Motorsport again plans to enter Wolfgang Kaufmann and the Brokernet Silver Sting.
